About the Magazine

What's Nu? was founded on April 1st, 2025 by Stardest. Since this date, more talented people and artists have joined our team to spread the good word that nu metal isn't dead. At least, not while we have anything to say about it.

We choose to print physical as an effort to double down on the power of physical media, CDs, vinyls, and the like. In our modern age, true ownership of what we read and listen to is rare, and what is more authenic than letting the people hold our product in their hands? We may choose to pivot in the future and release digital versions of our magazine (wink wink nudge nudge), but we will never stop printing physical versions of every issue for those who share our values.

We also value listening to your voice. The people are the ones who make the music, and the people are the ones who find the best bands right as they begin. Local? National? Worldwide? We'll cover it all. Got a band you like? We'll lend an ear.

About Our Staff

Stardest. The one and only. The original creator of What's Nu. Chief editor, Dest has a vision for the magazine that the rest of us can't even begin to comprehend. Without her, this project wouldn't exist. Sometimes all someone needs to start something amazing is a dream and a passion for number 1 nu metal band Mad Kelly.

Stef Carrizales is one of our main photographers, providing boots on the ground information from all the local nu bands in the North Texas scene. A navy veteran, Stef's main stomping grounds have changed to Fort Worth. Know any cool bands from there? Stef's got you covered.

Lars writes a lot of our more analytical articles, providing a unique perspective on topics that wouldn't be considered otherwise in the nu-metal scene. Lars also provides some epic photos for our page designs, and helps in coming up with new ideas for the project. Lars rocks!!!

Sam Owens is a strong nu metal soldier. Writer, editor, photographer, AND interviewer, Sam can do anything that the rest of us can't. A huge fan of experimenting with graphic design and 3D visuals, Sam often has his own projects on the side to supplement his nu metal addiction. Huge fan of Halo and Static Dress.

Fernsteiin is the brains behind this website. A recent addition to the What's Nu team, they've also written a few articles for later issues. Currently studying video game design, and very passionate about anything music, tech, and alternative.

Holiday Kirk is the CEO of the Nu Metal Agenda. As our publisher, he helps with outreach and has secured multiple important connections that would've otherwise made upkeeping this magazine extremely difficult. Also, he's a DJ! If you're in the Los Angeles area, you might have heard of him already.

Riviera is a writer from the Nu Metal Agenda, helping the team with writing articles that give an interesting look into how nu-metal has shaped parts of our lives in ways that we might not expect. Also helps with certain management decisions.
